Due to an accidental spill at the biggest biochemistry lab in the east coast city of Newston, the novel C.anima virus has been unleashed into the surrounding city, infecting millions of humans and animals. Victims of C.anima developed grotesque anatomical mutations and entered a brainless, zombified state, craving human flesh and spreading the infection through their bites. This soon turned Newston into an apocalyptic hellscape.

Among those infected was Skyler, who was previously a sporty high school senior in Newston. He spent the first four months of his transformation wandering around the city and chasing after surviving humans, until he happened to stumble across the lab that was the source of the outbreak. Limping through the ruins of the lab, a drop of glowing liquid fell through the broken pipes onto his shoulder. Immediately, he was “awakened”, regaining human consciousness.

While still trying to make sense of his new situation, Skyler encountered Anna when he was ambushed by one of her traps. Anna was still in fourth grade when the outbreak occurred, and with both parents infected, she was forced to develop survival skills of her own to last in the zombie-filled Newston. Though at first she was wary of Skyler, Anna soon realized that he miraculously has human sentience despite his zombie appearance. They quickly bonded and became close friends, aiding each other’s survival in the apocalypse.

However, some questions remained on the back of the pair’s minds: What was the mysterious substance that “cured” Skyler? Is the current apocalypse really the doing of a virus, as they have all been told? Or is there something else going on beneath the surface?
